Good Morning, Boise State 10/20: In Memoriam: Doug Martin

Honoring one of the best running backs in Boise State history.

Good Morning, Bronco Nation!

Doug Martin, one of the best to ever run the ball in Boise State program history, passed away this weekend at the age of 36. Martin was a two-time first team all-conference running back, and he remains in the program’s top-10 for career rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, rush attempts, yards per carry, and rushing yards per game.

Martin was the first Bronco running back to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft. Read more about his legendary career.

🔼 Protected The Blue. Boise State used a dominant second half to push past UNLV, 56-31, on Saturday afternoon on The Blue. The Broncos scored four-straight touchdowns after halftime as the previously undefeated Rebels picked up their first loss of the season.

QB Maddux Madsen stayed hot, tallying four passing touchdowns and 253 passing yards. Dylan Riley rushed for a new career high, logging 201 yards on the ground and a TD, while Sire Gaines also posted his second-straight game with multiple touchdowns. Defensively, A’Marion McCoy dominated with a 60-yard pick six in the third quarter, and Ty Benefield and Jaden Mickey each led the squad with seven tackles.

🔼 Clinched! Boise State soccer continued its winning ways on Sunday, beating New Mexico, 2-1, on the road. Sophie Schmautz opened the scoring for the Broncos in the 22nd minute with the assist going to Kenzie MacMillan, then Madie Donovan scored just before halftime to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead. With the win, the Broncos clinched a spot in the Mountain West Tournament!

The Broncos will play Grand Canyon in Phoenix on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. MT.

🔼 Getting Sharp. In an exhibition game on Friday night, Boise State men’s basketball beat Idaho, 89-83. Drew Fielder led all players with 24 points for Boise State as three different Broncos finished the day in double digits. Andrew Meadow added 14 points, while Javan Buchanan tallied 13 points. The regular season gets underway against Hawai’i Pacific at ExtraMile Arena on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. MT.

🔼 Weekend Winners. It was a busy weekend for Boise State cross country, as the team split up across the coasts. The women’s team finished in first place at the Princeton Fall Classic, beating teams from the ACC and Big Ten, while the men placed in the top three.

Meanwhile, at the George Oja Invitational in Oregon on Saturday, the Boise State women’s team took first with three different runners placing in the top 25. It’s the second-consecutive victory for the women’s team!
