Good Morning, Boise State 2/16: Winning A Thriller

Plus: Two men's golfers are set to compete today.

Good Morning, Bronco Nation!

Boise State women’s hoops captured its first win in Laramie since 2018, edging Wyoming 56-54 Saturday afternoon behind sophomore Libby Hutton's 20-point, nine-rebound performance! The Broncos (20-6, 11-4 Mountain West) rallied from multiple deficits as Mya Hansen nailed a clutch three-pointer to tie it 54-54 with 2:39 left, then Hutton drove for the go-ahead layup with just 13.7 seconds remaining to seal the deal. The Broncos now have 11 conference wins for the first time since 2022-23!

🔼 On Beam. Boise State gymnastics posted a season-best 49.125 on beam at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, led by Miraya Nero and Kristina Shchennikova who each scored career-high 9.900s to tie for fourth, marking the Broncos' first 9.900 scores of 2026 and their first meet with multiple 9.900+ beam performances since the 2024 Mountain West Championships! Nero also delivered a career-best and team season-high 9.850 on vault to tie for second, while Sydney Kho matched her career-best on beam with a 9.875, as the Broncos finished fourth overall with a 194.825 score behind No. 13 North Carolina, No. 21 NC State, and No. 17 Auburn. The stellar beam rotation capped a meet where Delaney Reeves led floor with a 9.800 (her fourth 9.800+ floor score this season), and Shchennikova also made her collegiate floor debut with a 9.675.

🔼 Bounce Back. Boise State men’s tennis defeated Denver 5-2 on Sunday, improving to 6-2 and extending their all-time series lead to 8-4. The Broncos secured the doubles point early with wins from Stewart Aronson/Filip Soderqvist and Carson Baker/Avery Tallakson, then Filip Soderqvist clinched his 15th singles win of the season.

🔼 On Your Mark. Boise State track and field wrapped up the 2025-26 indoor regular season with a bang, setting two program records at the Husky Classic and Don Kirby Invitational. Senior Kaiya Robertson crushed her own mile record for the second straight meet with a blazing 4:24.51, more than four seconds faster than her previous mark and good for third in the nation this season.

Freshman Priscilla Adu-Gyamfi broke an 18-year-old 400-meter school record with a 53.40. Alex Thompson ran the second-fastest mile in program history (3:59.13), while the men's 4x400 relay quartet of John Dailey, Trevor Cogley, Josh Green, and Chase Lawyer posted the third-fastest time ever (3:12.56) as the Broncos head into the Mountain West Championships on fire.

🔼 Tee Off. Boise State men's golf’s Cole Rueck and Gavyn Knight will compete in the 2026 Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase today at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, with the individual champion earning an exemption into the 2026 Corales Puntacana Championship. Rueck aims to make history as the first three-time winner after successfully defending his title last year with a 3-under 69, while Knight, who finished fifth in 2025, looks to improve on his performance in the 18-golfer field.

🔼 Looking Ahead. Boise State softball couldn't overcome three early errors and dropped an 8-5 decision to Southern Utah on Sunday, falling to 6-5 after trailing 8-2 through two innings. Grace Peffley shined in her first collegiate start with a 2-for-4 performance, while Loula-Rae McNamara lowered her team-best ERA to 1.67 with two shutout innings in her 10th appearance of the season. The Broncos mounted a late rally as Skylar Stroh delivered a two-run single in the fourth and Kate Penberthy added a sacrifice fly in the fifth, but couldn't complete the comeback.

The Broncos will be back on the field at the DeMarini Invitational in Stanford, California, from Feb. 19-22.

🔼 Up Next. Drew Fielder tied his career high with 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting, leading Boise State in a hard-fought 86-83 overtime battle against UNLV on Friday night at ExtraMile Arena. Pearson Carmichael added 16 points for his second consecutive game, while Dylan Andrews chipped in 12 points and five assists as the Broncos shot an impressive 91.3 percent from the free-throw line (21-of-23), their seventh game this season shooting at least 90 percent from the charity stripe, which is tied for most in the nation. The Broncos now sit at 15-10 overall and 7-7 in Mountain West play heading into Wednesday's road matchup at Utah State.
