Good Morning, Boise State 2/28: Seat J24, Forever In Our Hearts
Two Boise State WBB players share their heartbreaking stories of having fathers stricken with kidney cancer, and what they've done to honor their dads.
Good Morning, Bronco Nation! Throughout the entirety of Jayda Clark’s career, her father, Jay, had the same pregame tradition.
He would be one of the first fans to show up to ExtraMile Arena during home games. He had a seat to get to, and wanted to make sure he had enough time to claim it before the rest of the Blue and Orange faithful could.
His seat was in section 6, right at the end of the aisle. J24.
“It was this little superstition that he had,” Jayda, who wears No. 24 for the squad, said. “I always asked, ‘Why do you need to sit there like that?’ and he would say, ‘It's J24. Why wouldn't I sit there?’”
When Boise State WBB takes the floor for senior night on Tuesday, his seat will have a reserved sign, as it has had for a little over a year now. Jay was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer on Nov. 3, 2023 and passed away a little over two months later on Jan. 5, 2024.

🔼 Fulfilling Her Promise. Following the last week of classes in May, Boise State WBB player Dani Bayes had her belongings packed and was eager to make the long trek from America back home to Australia.
Immediately when she arrived, her parents informed her that her father was having health issues. After further testing, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. A few days later, he was given a 50-50 chance of survival, but was later told that the disease was incurable.
Dani informed both her teammates and coaching staff of the situation. When Jayda Clark received the news, she decided that she would do whatever it took to support her teammate.
Dani knew her dad wouldn’t let her remain at home, and right before she left, he made her a promise: He would do everything he could to fight the disease while she continued pursuing her dream in America.
With that in mind, Dani came back to the team with a renewed sense of determination.

🔼 Season Opener Could Be Prickly. Boise State BVB will kick off its 2025 season this weekend at the Cactus Classic. The event begins today in Tucson, Arizona, and will consist of four matches over two days. The Broncos will conclude their opening weekend on Sunday, March 2, with a singular dual against UTEP in El Paso, Texas.
The Broncos are coming off their best season in program history, finishing the 2023-24 year with a 31-12 record. Boise State finished as runners-up in the SCC for the second consecutive season, narrowly missing out on an automatic bid to the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship.

🔼 A Lot On the Line. No. 29 Boise State will host Air Force on tonight at 7 p.m. MT in ExtraMile Arena. This marks the Broncos’ last conference meet of the season.
Boise State holds a 4-1 conference record this season, earning it at least a share of the Mountain West regular season championship. If the Broncos can secure a win or tie on Friday, the team will be named outright champions.

🔼 Devil May Care to Know These Deets. The teams competing are No. 9 Arizona, No. 29 Boise State, No. 41 Arizona State, No. 49 Washington, No. 68 Utah State, Liberty and UTSA.
On Friday, the Broncos will open the seven-team tournament against UTSA (Texas – San Antonio) at 4 p.m. MT. Depending on Friday’s results, the Blue and Orange will face either No. 41 Arizona State or Liberty in the first of two contests on Saturday.

Consistency is Key. Today’s trivia question… ICYMI! Boise State MBB downed Utah State, 82-65, on Wednesday night at ExtraMile Arena. With that dub, how many 20-win seasons have they secured under head coach Leon Rice?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER
Answer: 12!
The Broncos (20-8, 12-5 Mountain West) MBB team secured its 12th 20-win season under head coach Leon Rice with Wednesday’s win over Utah State. Boise State has won seven of its last eight and earned a split in the two games against the Aggies (24-5, 14-4 MW) this season.
🔷 Happy Fri-YAY, Bronco Nation!
