Good Morning, Boise State 4/24: Frosh Off the Presses

Boise State women's tennis freshman standout Maya Dutta was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year.

Good Morning, Bronco Nation! Boise State women's tennis freshman standout Maya Dutta was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year.

Dutta and Zdena Safarova were among the 16 MW players to earn all-conference honors in singles. The duo is also one of eight doubles teams recognized with all-conference honors in doubles.

A Dallas, Texas native, Dutta becomes the second player in Boise State history to be named MW freshman of the year, joining Wilhelmina Palmer, who received the honor in 2018.

🔼 Tri-Perfecta. Three Broncos—Carson Baker, Jett Middleton and James Van Herzeele—have been named to the postseason Mountain West Men's Tennis All-Conference Team as announced by the league office Tuesday night in Las Vegas. 

Baker and Middleton earned double recognition in both singles and doubles, while Van Herzeele received his accolade for singles. Today's announcement marks the first time any of the three have earned postseason honors from the league. 

🔼 Seeking B-2-B Sweeps. The 42nd-ranked Boise State (20-4, 6-0 MW) men’s tennis team is in Las Vegas for the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Tennis Championship. The Broncos enter the tournament as the 2025 regular-season champions and No. 1 seed. If the Blue and Orange win the tournament, it would be the third consecutive MW tournament title, to go with back-to-back regular-season championships.
 
The march to the title begins tonight in the semifinal round against the No. 4 seed Nevada Wolf Pack at 6 p.m. MT after they defeated the fifth-seeded Air Force Falcons 4-2 in the opening round Wednesday night. If the Broncos win their semifinal contest, they will play for the championship at 6 p.m. (MT) tomorrow against the No. 3 Utah State versus No. 2 New Mexico semifinal winner..

🔼 You Ready For This Showdown? Boise State beach volleyball recorded a pair of sweeps on the opening day of the Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship, Wednesday, to advance to the winners' bracket final. 

The top-seeded Broncos (20-10) defeated No. 8 New Orleans 3-0 in the morning before taking down No. 5 Houston Christian by the same margin in the afternoon. With the victory, Boise State will face off against three-time defending champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. MT today in a match that will be streamed on ESPN+.

🔼 The Net Results. The No. 4 Boise State women’s tennis team will begin the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship in the quarterfinals against No. 5 Fresno State today at 3:00 p.m. MT. The three-day event will continue through the weekend.

The Broncos ended the regular season with six straight conference dual wins, their most entering a conference tournament since the 2009-10 season. The streak is also their longest since winning eight consecutive duals as members of the Western Athletic Conference in 2010.

Makenzie Butt became the 12th freshman in NCAA history with 20 home runs and 70 RBI. Mykenzie Hanna homered for the 50th time in her career. Brooklynn Pettis homered for the second-straight game.
