Good Morning, Boise State 4/7: J-Hud Leaves Record in the Dust

Over the two-meet weekend, Boise State track and field recorded a combined 38 personal bests, including Joe Hudson's record-breaking performance in the 10,000-meter.

Good Morning, Bronco Nation! Boise State's two-meet weekend was highlighted by Joe Hudson's record-breaking performance in the 10,000-meter. Hudson finished in 28.23.68, more than 20 seconds faster than the previous record.

Over the weekend, Boise State recorded a combined 38 personal bests. Yasmin Marghini recorded the fourth-fastest 5,000-meter time, running 15:46.12. Tom Graham-Marr also set the second-fastest 5,000m time in Boise State history, finishing in 13:39.39.

🔼 Double Dip Sunday Split. Boise State and New Mexico split a Mountain West softball doubleheader, Sunday. The Broncos (28-12, 7-6 MW) dropped the opener 2-1 and took game two 6-3. Boise State trailed 2-0 after an inning in the nightcap before rallying for its 13th come-from-behind win of the season.

🔼 Dozen Home Dubs. The Boise State women's tennis team secured three singles victories in straight sets to propel the team to its third consecutive MW sweep, winning 4-0 against Wyoming. The Broncos are now 12-0 at home, marking the third-best home record in program history in a single season.

  • Boise State has racked up 10 sweeps this season, the first time since doing so in 2010.

  • With today's victory, Zdena Safarova now holds the highest single-season win percentage in program history at 90.3% (28-3). The sophomore's 28 wins are also tied for 10th-most in a single season.

  • Beck Roghaar's 169 wins are 12 shy of the most career wins by a head coach in Boise State history.

🔼 Aces Are High. The 42nd-ranked Broncos rallied Sunday afternoon for a 4-1 victory at San Diego State. Boise State came back from a 1-0 deficit following doubles to win four singles matches and secure the victory. Boise State extended its win streak to nine with the victory, improving to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in MW play.

John Chin won his eighth consecutive singles match, bringing his total wins for the year to 15. Carson Baker won his 19th singles contest this year, a team high. Lukas Velik also won his 19th singles contest of the year, remaining tied for the lead with Baker.

🔼 And For the Grand Finale. The Boise State women’s golf team will conclude the 2024-25 regular season at the Chevron Silverado Showdown today through Wednesday, April 7-9. The Broncos will play on the Silverado Resort South Course in Napa, California.

Last time out, Boise State finished eighth with an 897 (+45) at the Silicon Valley Showcase. Teal Matsueda paced the Broncos, tying for 11th at 216 (+3). The sophomore was the MW Women’s Golfer of the Week for the first time in her career.

🔼 Sun Sets On Spectacular Season. Boise State concluded the 2024-25 season with a 79-69 loss to Nebraska on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the College Basketball Crown. With a 26-11 overall record, Boise State wraps the year with the second-most wins in a single season in program history.
 
Tyson Degenhart led the Broncos with a game-high 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Averaging 22.0 points in three games, Degenhart scored 20 or more in two of them.

🔼 Par For the Cali Course. Boise State men's golf has traveled to Goleta, California, to compete in the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Intercollegiate. Taking place at Sandpiper Golf Course, the 54-hole event spans today and tomorrow. Play begins this morning with an 8:30 a.m. PT shotgun start.

Collectively, the Broncos finished 11th (867, +15) in the recent Oregon Duck Invitational. One-of-17 golfers to finish the invitational under par, Cole Rueck fired a 212 (-1) and notched a tie for 14th.
