Good Morning, Boise State 5/5: Broncos Dominate On the Diamond

The Boise State softball team's 12-2 mercy-rule victory over Utah State Saturday completed the sweep and earned it the No. 4 seed in the MW Softball Championship.

Good Morning, Bronco Nation! The Boise State softball team scored in every inning during a 12-2 five-inning, mercy-rule victory over Utah State, Saturday. With the win, the Broncos (33-20, 11-11 Mountain West) completed a three-game sweep of the Aggies (26-25, 11-11).

Boise State earned the No. 4 seed in the MW Softball Championship and will face the fifth-seeded Aggies at 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT, Wednesday, May 7, in San Diego, California.

πŸ”Ό What a Run. The Boise State women's tennis team was defeated 4-0 by No. 14 Texas in the second round of the NCAA tournament, Saturday afternoon.

Boise State finishes its season 20-6, marking the seventh 20+ win campaign in program history and the first since 2010. The Broncos' 76.9% win rate ranks as the seventh-highest in program history. The team finished the season winning an impressive 10 of its final 11 matches.

πŸ”Ό Heads Held High. The Boise State men's tennis team came up short Friday afternoon in Berkeley, California, falling 4-1 to the 11th-ranked Cal Golden Bears in the opening round of the NCAA Championship. This was the third straight NCAA tournament for Boise State (head coach Luke Shields is three for three during his tenure) and its 21st appearance in program history. Boise State finishes the year at 21-6 overall, recording the program's 22nd season with 20-plus wins.

Taiyo Kurata and Julius Seifert won their 10th match as a doubles team. Idriss Haddouch won his 16th consecutive match to improve to 21-10 overall and 16-1 this spring.

πŸ”Ό PRs Abounded. The Boise State track and field team wrapped up its two-day competition at the Fresno State Invitational Saturday night with 10 top-five finishes and 16 personal bests. 

In the men's 100-meter, Josh Green and Dalton Wild finished fourth and fifth, respectively, both setting PRs. Alyssa Cullen impressed in the women's 400-meters, taking fourth place while running a personal best time of 54.51.

πŸ”Ό No Slowing Down. The No. 14 Boise State BVB team fell to No. 3 Stanford, 3-0, in the opening round of the 2025 Beach Volleyball National Championship, Friday. The Broncos, who competed at the national tournament for the first time in program history, finished the season with a 23-12 record.

Matsueda averaged 73.33 strokes per round this season, the second-best mark in program history. She also posted a pair of top-10 finishes and placed 25th or better seven times, tying the sixth-most in school single-season history.
