🔷 ONE BIG THING
🔼 Shining Star. The reigning MW Defensive Player of the Year, Abby Muse, was selected as one of five members on the 2023-2024 Preseason All-MW Team. The selection marks the first time she has received a preseason accolade in her career.
Last season, Muse averaged 9.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and a league-high 2.8 blocks per game. For her defensive efforts, she became the program’s all-time leader in single-season and career blocks. Muse and the rest of Bronco women’s basketball returns to action for the 2023-24 season with an exhibition at home on Nov. 3 against The Master’s.
📈 STOCK UP
After two consecutive years of season-ending injuries, Markel Reed has bounced back to make an immediate impact and earned his way to the next stage of candidates for the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year Award Watch List.
The Bronco cornerback has returned to the secondary and has played in all six games this season, four in a starting role. Reed has nine tackles, two pass breakups and has successfully reached his 30th-career game. He is one of 49 players to advance to the next stage of the watch list which marks the third time in four seasons the Broncos have had a player reach an additional stage of the award.
🔼 Strong Finish. Bronco women’s golf jumped up three spots after posting the second-lowest score of the final round at the Golf Iconic Classic to finish in fourth place. The team’s score was the second lowest 54-hole team score in program history (861, -3), one stroke shy of the school record. Leia Chung and Franca Polla both finished in the top 10 individually posting career-low scores of 6-under par and 3-under par, respectively.
🔼 Going For Five. Boise State soccer will begin its three-day homestand tonight as they take on the first challenger of the week: San Jose State. The Broncos come in to the matchup after capturing the first victory against conference rival New Mexico since 2019 in a 2-1 victory.
The all-time series against San Jose State is a close 10-10-3, but Boise State holds the advantage when playing at home where the record improves to 6-2-2 against the Spartans. The Broncos will begin play at 7 p.m. at Boas Soccer Complex where the team will be looking for its fifth conference win of the season.
🤔 BLUE TURF TRIVIA
Preseason Nods. Abby Muse earned one of just five spots on the preseason All-MW team, but it isn’t the first time a Bronco has made the short list of preseason players in the conference.
