🔷 ONE BIG THING

Boise State soccer breezed through the first round of the MW Soccer Championship with a 2-0 win over Nevada to advance to the semifinals.

The scoring got started early with Kenzie MacMillan slotting home an outside-the-box goal to go up one in the 16th minute of the match. Then, in the 34th minute, Sophie Drown collected a bouncing ball in the middle of the chaos to score her second of the season and put the Broncos up two. In the end, Boise State scored after putting up 22 shots to advance to another round in the tournament.

🗣️ "We played a wonderful Nevada team who put up a really strong fight. We did an excellent job with the way we went about this game in the first half, gaining the lead that we wanted." - Jim Thomas

The Broncos will make it back to the pitch on Tuesday to battle against Utah State for a chance to move on to the championship.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Bronco Beatdown. Quarterback Taylen Green and wide receiver Eric McAlister got the scoring started for the Broncos on Saturday against Wyoming and never looked back. Boise State rounded up the Cowboys in a 32-7 win with a combination of explosive offense and stifling defense.

The Broncos used its QB duo consisting of Green and Maddux Madsen to throw for 216 yards, 160 of which were to McAlister, and two touchdowns while a collection of running backs helped Boise State earn 227 yards on the ground and another two touchdowns. The defense locked down the Cowboys all game long, allowing just 125 yards of offense with seven tackles for loss and an interception.

🔼 Runners High Note. Boise State cross country finished the year at the MW Championships with six runners on the All-Mountain West teams as well as Freshman of the Year Julia Kiesler. The men’s team placed third in the championship while the women’s team finished as the race’s runners-up.

🗣️ "Both groups competed really well. The women were outstanding, I'm really proud of their drive to get out there and after it, while the men continue to be solid. It is great to see both teams continue to grow as we head into regionals soon." - head coach Corey Ihmels

🔼 Momentum Wins. In the Broncos’ third tournament of the season, two duos reached the championship match of their respective brackets. Marlayna Bullington and Lily Patock finished as the runners-up in the Copper Playoffs of the AVCA Division while Summer McCann and Abbie Wolf also placed second in the Gold Playoffs of the A Division.

🔼 Island Strokes. Wrapping up play for the fall, Boise State men’s golf capped off its 2023 with a 12th place finish at the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. Cole Rueck finished in the top 30 golfers with a 5-under par tournament with Drew Reinke and Ryan Meyer also joining him with under par scores.
