🔷 ONE BIG THING

Boise State track and field wrapped up the 2023 calendar year with a pair of Broncos earning gold medals at the Spokane Invitational.

Janiah Brown raced out to a first-place finish in the women’s 600m with a speedy-fast time of 1:32.13 to stand atop the podium. The other gold medal finisher, Anass Mghari won the men’s 600m with a time of 1:18.44. His time was the fastest 600m by a Bronco since the 2009-10 indoor season.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Century Mark. For the first time this season, the Broncos put up over 100 points en route to a convincing 109-70 win over Western Oregon. It was the first time since the 2020-21 season that Boise State men’s basketball had put up 100 points or more in a game.

Max Rice led all scorers with 28 points while Chibuzo Agbo (24 points) and Tyson Degenhart (18 points) helped out in the Broncos’ explosive offensive performance.

🗣️ "The things our guards are getting better at is when a guy is hitting his shots, it's their job to find him another easy look. That's what our young guards are getting better at, and it allows those two (Agbo and Rice) to keep going." - Leon Rice

The win improved the team to 6-3 on the season and marked the 18th straight victory at home for the Broncos, bringing the team’s record to 55-7 at The X since the 2019-20 season. Additionally, all 14 players not redshirting entered the game with 12 of them putting up points on the scoreboard. Boise State will continue their homestand on Tuesday when the Broncos face off against Northwestern State at 7 p.m.

🔼 Preseason Praise. The Broncos were the only Mountain West gymnastics team to be placed in the top 36 of the 2024 WGCA Preseason Poll as the team earned a No. 29 ranking. Boise State will face some tough competition as six of its non-conference opponents landed in the top 25.

Bronco gymnastics will start the season with a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, for a dual meet against No. 4 Utah, on Jan. 5.

🔼 Road Tested. Boise State women’s basketball hit the road for a matchup against BYU, but were unable to return home with a victory. The Broncos fell 65-50 against one of the top teams in the Big 12 conference.

Forward Abby Muse finished as the team’s sole scorer in the double-digits with 12 points and eight rebounds while Natalie Pasco scored another eight points on an efficient 60% from the field. The Broncos host Rocky Mountain College on Tuesday at Noon.
