🔷 ONE BIG THING

For the second week in a row, a Boise State gymnast earned the Ford Student-Athlete of the Week award. This time, Emily Lopez received the honor following her performance in the home opener.

Lopez was the bars and co-beam champion at the Broncos' home opener after tallying season-best scores on bars (9.950), beam (9.925), and vault (9.800). Her bars score matched Boise State's best individual event score of the 2024 campaign while her beam score tied her career high. The senior gymnast’s efforts also helped the Blue and Orange sweep Air Force, San Jose State and West Chester, and gave head coach Tina Bird 250-career victories.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Five Star Welcome. Boise State football and head coach Spencer Danielson boosted the 2024 recruiting class after announcing the addition of wide receiver Chris Marshall to the Broncos’ roster. Marshall will join the program after being listed as the nation’s top junior college prospect for the 2024 recruiting class.

🗣️ "He has tremendous speed, impressive hands and the ability to play at the next level. But more than that, he is a hard-working young man that wants to contribute to this team and win. I look forward to seeing that energy and effort out of him this spring." - Spencer Danielson

The former five-star, top-25 prospect out of high school, showed his explosiveness right away at Kilgore College as Marshall went for 139 yards and two touchdowns in his first game before sustaining an ankle injury that sidelined him for five weeks. He returned to produce several big outings including a two-touchdown performance against Tyler Junior College and a 162-yard game against Blinn College. He finished the season with 21 receptions for 449 yards and five touchdowns.

🔼 Strong Start. Boise State women’s tennis defeated Idaho State in an exciting 4-3 win in the season opener. Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo collected the doubles point with a tiebreaker 7-6 win, and Discenza started strong in singles by securing the first point. Pauline Ernstberger got the Broncos another point after winning her match 6-2, 6-1, and Bhakti Shah nabbed the match-winning point in her 6-1, 6-0 singles win.

🗣️ "I'm really proud of tonight's performance. Everybody did their job and played their role. It's matches like that that leads us to be a great team. It's a great start to the season." - head coach Beck Roghaar

The win marks the 20th match in a row that the Broncos have come out on top against Idaho State. Next up, Boise State will continue its homestand against Washington State on Saturday at 11 a.m.

🔼 New Episode. The Bronco Sports Podcast Network is back with a new episode of For the ‘Love’ Of The Game. Boise State men’s tennis senior Sam Sippel joins the show to share his perspective on what it has been like to be a student-athlete at Boise State.
