🔷 ONE BIG THING
Boise State men's tennis team senior Sam Sippel was named this week's Ford Boise State Student-Athlete of the Week and MW Player of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career. Sippel earned the awards following his performance at ITA Kickoff Weekend where he helped the Broncos earn a split in Columbus, Ohio, that saw the Blue and Orange defeat Oregon 4-3 before falling to top-ranked Ohio State. In the tournament, Sippel went 2-1 overall including a come-from-behind win after being 5-1 down in the first set to force it into a tiebreaker where he won 7-6(6).
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Road Warriors. Heading into the matchup as an underdog, Boise State men’s basketball handed New Mexico its first home loss of the season with an impressive 86-78 win. The Broncos never trailed in the second half thanks to the standout performance from Max Rice who tallied 35 points, including seven 3-pointers, and added five rebounds and two steals. O’Mar Stanley added a double-double to the game after recording 12 points and 14 rebounds. After knocking off the No. 19 team in the country, the Broncos improved to 6-2 in conference play and moved to 15-6 on the season.
🔼 Down Go The Dogs. Behind a career performance from sophomore guard Tatum Thompson, Boise State women’s basketball took down Fresno State 60-50 on the road. The win improved the Broncos record to 5-4 in conference play.
🗣️ "Tatum came up big today. She really committed herself and I'm glad it paid off for her today. I'm really pumped for her.” - head coach Gordy Presnell
Thompson finished with a career-high 21 points on the night, 15 of which came in the second half, and finished 6-of-11 from the floor and 2-of-2 from deep. The Broncos will look to carry momentum into its next game at home against San Jose State.
🔼 Off The Blocks. Boise State track and field is once again off to Spokane, Wash., but this time, to compete in the Riverfront Invitational and Multis in the three-day meet. The Broncos will compete in an array of events that include the pentathlon, men’s and women’s 400m, and 4×400 relays. The team is coming off a split weekend that saw 34 Broncos record career-bests with three top-five finishes.
It’s Eras Night for Boise State gymnastics! Boise State will host Iowa State for a dual on Friday, Feb. 2 in ExtraMile Arena. Coming into the dual, Boise State comes into the meeting at 5-2 on the season, and all-time, the Broncos are 5-0 when facing Iowa State.
Head coach Tina Bird has a special offer for Bronco Nation! Show up and show out to support the Broncos, and the first 200 fans in attendance will get a custom Eras Night poster.
