🔷 ONE BIG THING
Following her Mountain West Pitcher of the Week award, Taylor Caudill earned national recognition after being named the Wilson/NFCA D1 Pitcher of the Week. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native won each of her four appearances at the Kajikawa Classic in Arizona with a 0.33 ERA, 0.33 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 21 innings. She retired 62 of 73 batters faced and only allowed four baserunners to reach second base. Over the weekend, Caudill became the second pitcher to reach 400 career strikeouts at Boise State. Her current total of 401 is 31 shy of Aubray Zell’s (2009-12) record of 432 strikeouts.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Champion Golfer. After two playoff holes, Boise State men’s golfer Cole Rueck came out on top to win the Genesis Collegiate Showcase at the Riviera Maya Country Club. The win earned Rueck an exemption to compete in the 2024 Scottish Open and marked the second time a Mountain West golfer took home the event. Following the big win, the Bronco will return to action with the rest of the Boise State men's golf team at the end of the month at the Loyola Intercollegiate on Feb. 25.
🔼 Raising The Bar. Seniors Courtney Blackson and Emily Lopez each earned a Mountain West Specialist of the Week honor following their performances on the road against Southern Utah. Blackson was named the Vault Specialist of the Week for her fourth weekly conference award, scoring a season-high 9.950 on the apparatus. The Elk Grove, Calif., native won vault for the second time this season, now having three event wins this season and 13 in her career. Lopez was selected as the Bars Specialist of the Week for the fourth time this season after scoring a season-high 9.950 on bars. She notched her third win of the year on bars, extending her career total to 10 with five total wins this season.
🔼 Next Level. Running back George Holani was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, marking 20 years in a row that a Bronco football player has attended the event. Holani becomes the 56th player in Boise State history to be included. He is one of 321 prospects to receive an invitation to this year's combine and is one of 29 running backs offered to attend in Indianapolis. Over his collegiate career, No. 24 totaled 4,479 all-purpose yards, 10th-most in Boise State history.
🔼 Road Show. Boise State women’s basketball heads to Logan, Utah tonight to face off against Utah State at 6 p.m. The Broncos are coming into the matchup after picking up a big win over Wyoming last Saturday to claim its third-straight win. Over the past three games, Boise State has held its opponents to 44.3 points per game and has kept teams to a 32.1 shooting percentage. The Broncos enter the game fourth in the Mountain West while the Aggies sit at the bottom of the table with a 1-11 conference record.
🔼 Matched Up. Elli Gordon won her match 2&1 for the Broncos, and Leia Chung finished her match in a tie, but Boise State women’s golf was unable to come away with the win against St. Thomas. Jillian Hui recorded a 4&2 win, and Hannah Lim earned a 2&1 win as individuals competing on their own. The Broncos will wrap up the Mountain Classic Match Play today as the team takes on Wyoming.
🔼 In The Spotlight. Graduate assistant Kiersten Hart is in her second year working in the creative services department at Boise State Athletics while pursuing a degree in the Master of Athletic Leadership (MAL) program. The creative services department at Boise State consists of four areas – live production, postproduction, graphic design and athletic photography. Hart is responsible for getting content for the softball and women's golf student-athletes during their practices and weight room sessions, as well as pregame and in-game content.
