🔷 ONE BIG THING
Three former Broncos were selected for the Mountain West's 25th Season Indoor Track and Field Teams in celebration of the Mountain West’s 25th Season.
👟 Alexis Fuller was a three-time NCAA Indoor All-American and seven-time All-Mountain West Indoor Track and Field selection. Fuller won six Mountain West Indoor Championships over four seasons at Boise State, including the distance medley relay (2016-19), the 800m (2016) and the mile (2018).
👟 Allie Ostrander is the only three-time MW Female Athlete of the Year in conference history. She was a four-time NCAA Indoor All-American and a four-time MW Champion. Ostrander still holds the school record in multiple events in the program's top-five performance list, including the mile (4:35.79), 3,000m (8:54.27), 5,000m (15:16.38) and the distance medley relay (10:55.42).
👟 Emma Bates was a two-time MW Champion in the women's indoor 3,000m, as well as a two-time All-MW selection in the event. She is also a two-time NCAA Indoor First Team All-American in the women's 3,000m and 5,000m. During her final season, Bates set school records in the mile (4:42.49), 3,000m (9:13.63) and 5,000m (15:50.78).
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Captain Clutch. Bronco women’s basketball’s sophomore guard, Dani Bayes, hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining to push Boise State past New Mexico, 58-55. The win improved the team’s record to 18-9 on the season and 9-5 in the Mountain West, moving the Broncos into a tie for second place in the conference. Off the bench, Tatum Thompson led the team in scoring with 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor. Elodie Lalotte finished with 12 points and added six rebounds.
🗣️ “Everyone was on the same page and we came up with some huge stops at the end. I'm really proud of them. This was a big win for our program." - head coach Gordy Presnell
Boise State will close out its homestand on Saturday against Fresno State at 1 p.m.
🔼 Another Accolade. Following her first career Mountain West Player of the Week award, softball’s Sydney Groves was named the Boise State Ford Student-Athlete of the Week. The Meridian, Idaho native batted .500 (7-for-14) during the Maverick Invitational in Arlington, Texas, and led the Broncos to a 4-1 record. Groves drove in 13 runs, including tying a school single-game record with eight against DePaul, during the Feb. 17 matchup.
🔼 Going For Gold. Boise State track and field is headed to the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., for the three-day meet that begins Thursday and finishes on Saturday. The Broncos will enter the meet with some momentum during the team’s last competition. At the Husky Classic, Ollie Newman became the third Bronco in program history to run a sub-four-minute mile. He placed fourth with a personal-best time of 3:59.79. Kaiya Robertson also improved her mile time, placing 18th in 4:39.77. She currently sits third in the program’s all-time indoor list in the event. In the Don Kirby Invitational, Janiah Brown placed second in the women’s 800-meter with a time of 2:07.59.
🔼 Time To Respond. The Broncos dropped a nonconference road game 4-1 against McNeese State with five games remaining on the team’s eight-day road trip. Megan Lake brought in a run thanks to her home run in her only at-bat, and standout freshman Sophia Knight extended her hitting streak to 11 after recording a single in the sixth inning.
🔼 Sand Storm. Boise State beach volleyball will be back on the sand for its season opener in Arizona this weekend. The Broncos will start at the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz., before ending the weekend at the Grand Canyon Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz., on Sunday. The Broncos are coming off the best season in program history, finishing with a program-best 25 wins with eight of those coming against conference opponents. Boise State returns all but two players from last year’s team, including four of the top five players on the Broncos’ all-time career wins list. The squad also returns five players who received SLC First Team recognition last season – Aris Vetter, Elli Wolthuis, Emilia Guerra-Acuña, Kaylee Mejia, and Lily Patock.
