🔷 ONE BIG THING

Leading up to the season-opening tournament, Boise State beach volleyball was selected to finish in second place in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll. The Broncos received six first-place votes and 88 total points in the rankings, which consisted of votes from head coaches and sports information directors from all eight schools. The upcoming season marks the second straight year that Boise State will compete as a member of the SLC. Boise State returns all but two players from last year's roster and is coming off its best season in program history, winning a program-record 25 matches.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 First Time Honors. Boise State women's golfer Teal Matsueda was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the first time following her performance in the Broncos’ tri-match against Long Beach State and UC Riverside. Matsueda tied for sixth, firing a 144 to finish the match at 2-over par. In the second round, she carded a 67 (-3) tied for the lowest single-round score at the event and tied for the best round of her career.

🔼 Day One Done. Boise State track and field completed day one at the Mountain West Indoor Championships with three of its student-athletes clocking personal-best times in their respective events. Ned Potter finished third among the Broncos as he raced out to a personal-best 14:54.79 in the men’s 5000m finals. The women’s team had Gabbie Hasskamp finish with a personal record of 3,320 points in the women’s pentathlon while Julia Kiesler finished as the top Bronco and placed second in the Mountain West in the women’s 5000m finals with a time of 16:55.07.

🔼 Toe To Toe. Boise State softball stood its ground against No. 6 LSU, forcing the game to extra innings, but in the end could not get the win. The Tigers scored runs in the second and third innings but the Broncos came alive in the sixth inning thanks to Alycia Flores who slapped a two-run single to tie the game. The combination of Taylor Caudill and Abby Dowell held LSU at bay, allowing nine hits and striking out five. In extras, the Broncos could not bring in a run, and in the tenth inning, LSU scored to give Boise State the loss. The Broncos will return to the diamond today for a game against Austin Peay and a rematch with LSU.

🔼 Broncos Are Back. Boise State men’s tennis is off to Montgomery, Ala., for the 76th annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, marking the return of the Broncos to this prestigious event after a four-year absence. The Broncos enter the tournament at 6-4 on the season and ranked 51st nationally. Every team competing this weekend is ranked inside the ITA’s Top 75, with four doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 75 and 12 individuals among the top 125 in singles, including Boise State’s Sam Sippel at No. 43.
