🔷 ONE BIG THING
Seven Boise State track and field student-athletes earned All-Mountain West honors for their performances at the 2024 MW Indoor Track and Field Championships. Among them are the men’s distance relay team, Trevor Cogley, Tom Graham-Marr, Anass Mghari and Ollie Newman, and women’s long-distance runners Julia Kiesler, Yasmin Marghini and Kaiya Robertson.
To qualify for all-conference, individuals and relay teams must place in the top three of their respective events at the conference championships. The Broncos' seven honorees accounted for eight spots on the list, led by senior Ollie Newman. He garnered two honors with his silver-medal finish in the men's mile, as well as a third-place finish in the men's distance medley relay.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Second Half Sizzle. The Broncos led by two at halftime but outscored the Falcons 51-22 in the second half to pull away from Air Force for a 79-48 road win. Boise State went on a 17-1 run over a 7:37 span to help widen the lead en route to the eventual victory. The win also helped the Broncos clinch their third-straight 20-win season, and 11th in head coach Leon Rice's 14 years with the program. Tyson Degenhart knocked down a game-high 21 points with five rebounds, two assists and a steal while Chibuzo Agbo scored 17 points to go along with six rebounds and a block.
🗣️ "This is a hard place to win back-to-back games at 7,000 feet. We went through a lot of guys so we were able to have them fresh, like Roddie came out ready to go in the second half. It was key to beating this team that had some mojo after beating New Mexico." - Leon Rice
Boise State men’s basketball’s next two games will be the final two home games of the season. The Broncos host New Mexico on March 2, and Nevada on March 5, at ExtraMile Arena.
🔼 Taking The Floor. For the second time this season, junior Emma Loyim was named the Mountain West Floor Co-Specialist of the Week. Loyim helped lead Boise State to victories over Iowa State, Texas Woman’s and Utah State after scoring a 9.925 on the apparatus. This is the fourth weekly conference award for the Mountain Lakes, N.J., native. The Broncos will return to the Treasure Valley to host No. 16 Minnesota, UC Davis and No. 26 Washington on Friday at The X.
🔼 Battling The Big Dogs. Boise State women’s basketball will travel to No. 24 UNLV for a matchup against the top team in the Mountain West tonight at 7:30 p.m. The Broncos come into the matchup off a second-straight victory on Saturday against Fresno State, winning 70-65 at home. Natalie Pasco scored 11 of her team-high 20 points in the fourth quarter, and Boise State shot 14-of-18 from the free throw line down the stretch to stave off a Bulldog comeback attempt. Head coach Gordy Presnell enters the contest needing one more win to become the 30th NCAA women’s basketball head coach to reach 750 victories. The 20th win of the season would also mark his eighth season at Boise State with 20 or more wins.
🔼 Season Opener. Boise State men's golf wrapped up its opening tournament of the spring at the Loyola Intercollegiate at the Palm Valley Golf Club in a tie for 17th with South Dakota State. Cole Rueck led the Broncos at 4-under par (71-67-74 – 212) and finished the tournament with a top-20 finish. Boise State will return to action next week with a cross-country trip to South Carolina for the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational in Aiken, S.C.
🔼 Broncos On Nutrition. As the saying goes, eat well, play well. Check out some behind-the-scenes footage as Boise State women’s basketball joined the nutrition team for a healthy cooking session.
