🔷 ONE BIG THING

Coaching legend Dirk Koetter, no stranger to Bronco Nation, will be back on the Boise State sidelines in 2024 as Broncos’ newest offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The former head coach in the collegiate ranks and NFL is back once again as the Broncos' offensive coordinator for the 2024 season. Koetter returns to a familiar sideline that he patrolled as head coach from 1998 to 2000 and then again as interim offensive coordinator in 2022.

🗣️ "I am happy to be back, even if I didn't see this coming. When [head coach] Spencer Danielson offered me this opportunity, I said yes for four reasons with the first being my utmost belief in and respect for Coach D and what he is building here. It was also because of my respect for the tradition of Bronco Football and how highly I think of this coaching staff. Last, but not least, it was how impressed I was with what this team did in its run last year to a Mountain West championship. That attitude, determination and work ethic is the exact type of program Boise State is supposed to be and to which I want to contribute." - Dirk Koetter

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Big Time Player. Sophomore Jip van Assnedelft was named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his performance last weekend. Van Assendelft led the Broncos at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., by recording a pair of top-20 victories. The sophomore from the Netherlands went 1-1 in singles versus nationally ranked opponents in Montgomery. The victory came in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, against fourth-ranked Ozan Baris of Michigan State. That win is the highest-ranked singles victory by a Bronco since 2000 (we cannot verify rankings before 2000); surpassing his coach, Luke Shields' win over No. 5 Ludovic Walter of Duke at the 2005 NCAA National Singles Championship on May 26, 2005.

🔼 Close One On The Road. Boise State women's basketball nearly pulled off the upset, falling 63-57 to No. 24 UNLV on the road. The Broncos’ bench players scored 34 of the 57 total points for the Blue and Orange. Tatum Thompson and Mya Hansen were dominant in the second half, combining to score 21 points in the half for the Broncos. Boise State will conclude its regular season home schedule on Saturday as the Broncos host Air Force at 2 p.m. Saturday's game is Senior Day with Boise State honoring its seniors in a pregame ceremony.

🔼 California Girls. Boise State softball will travel to Stanford, Calif., to compete in the DeMarini Invitational against three nationally ranked teams in California (No. 24), Georgia (No. 3) and Stanford (No. 10). The Broncos head into the tournament coming off a 3-3 showing at the Tiger Classic where the Blue and Orange knocked off Austin Peay (twice) and Houston. Boise State is 16th nationally with 1.38 home runs per game, complementing pitcher Taylor Caudill who is tied for seventh in the nation with six wins and tied for 17th with 51 strikeouts. Mykenzie Hanna enters the weekend 12th nationally with six home runs, and standout freshman Sophia Knight is tied for 12th with 25 hits, third among freshmen, after starting the season with a 14-game hitting streak.
