🔷 ONE BIG THING
For the fifth time in five games, Boise State men’s basketball came away with a win — this time knocking off New Mexico 89-79. The win keeps Boise State (21-8, 12-4 MW) at the top of the conference standings in a tie with Utah State. O'Mar Stanley finished with a team-high 24 points and recorded a double-double after hauling down 13 rebounds. Tyson Degenhart added 23 points – 15 in the second half – while Chibuzo Agbo tacked on another double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
🗣️ "We're playing (really) good. When I saw that New Mexico team, I knew they were dialed in. We were going to have to play an A game tonight to beat them and I think in a lot of ways we did. The Mountain West has some really good basketball teams and you got to see two of the best tonight." - head coach Leon Rice
Boise State closes out its home schedule on Tuesday, March 5, against Nevada. The Broncos will honor their senior class before the game.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Best of the Best. Following a 5-0 win over Vanguard, Boise State is 7-3 to start the season, matching last year's team for the best start in program history through 10 games. In the first match of the weekend, the Broncos recorded its first-ever win over Pepperdine, 4-1. “They've been one of the top programs in the nation for a long time and for us to go to their home courts and play really well is huge,” said head coach Allison Voigt.
🔼 Floor The Record. Boise State gymnastics earned a pair of wins in a quad meet, scoring 196.825 to defeat No. 16 Minnesota (196.425) and UC Davis (195.425). The Broncos put together its best rotation of the season on floor and recorded the fifth-highest score in program history at 49.525. Courtney Blackson and Emma Loyim both tied the school record of 9.950 for the second time this season. The meet improved Boise State to 13-4 this season and 8-1 when competing at home.
🔼 Tennis In Tempe. Boise State men’s tennis came up short in Tempe, Ariz., falling 4-2 to No. 30 VCU on the final day of the Diablo College Tennis Invitational. The Broncos finish the weekend in the desert 1-2 with a win over No. 51 Liberty and losses to VCU and No. 23 Arizona State. Boise State’s John Chin went undefeated in singles over the weekend and claimed his 11th win of the year against the Rams, improving to 7-3 this spring. The Broncos have concluded three weeks on the road and will be back in action at home on March 15 when the Purdue Boilermakers come to town.
🔼 Second Half Surge. Boise State women's basketball nearly overcame a 20-point deficit on Saturday, falling 67-66 to Air Force at home in ExtraMile Arena. Mya Hansen scored a team-high 26 points — 24 of which came in the second half — to enter the Broncos’ 500-point club. Tatum Thompson was a rebound short of a double-double off the bench with 10 points and nine boards while Dani Bayes and Natalie Pasco each finished with eight points apiece. Boise State will conclude its regular season on Tuesday in Fort Collins, Colo., against Colorado State. The Broncos hold a one-game lead over the Rams in the Mountain West standings.
🔼 Coaching Consistency. Boise State women's tennis lost to DePaul 4-3 in a close contest Saturday afternoon at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Joana Baptista, Ariadna Briones Ginesta and Pauline Ernstberger each earned wins in singles play with Baptista and Ernstberger battling back for three-set wins. The match did mark a milestone for head coach Beck Roghaar, his 276th appearance in the Blue and Orange, moving past Mark Tichenor for the longest-tenured coach in program history.
