Boise State football is a walk-on freshman turned Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, Leighton Vander Esch, number of days away from the first kick of the 2024 season.
No. 38 played in all 12 games during the 2015 season, and by 2017, recorded 141 tackles (fifth in the FBS) and led the team with four forced fumbles. Forgoing his fifth-year senior season, Vander Esch was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the 19th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
